WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IN THIS ROLE

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Tractor Driver will drive a diesel-powered tractor to list and plant carrot fields. The successful candidate will operate cultivation and organic equipment.

JOB DUTIES :

• Fastens attachments, such as lister bars, planters and cultivation equipment to a tractor with hitch pins
• Perform daily preventative maintenance procedures and safety inspections on equipment.
• Operates tractor drawn tillage and planting equipment. Undercut, flame and cultivate fields.
• Assists the Assistant Manager /Foreman in general mechanical repairs of equipment and planter seed calibration.
• Move listing, planting, cultivation and organic tractors safely on the road from different field locations.
• Perform other duties as assigned, this includes installation/extraction of irrigation equipment and field maintenance.
• Other duties as assigned.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Required Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to work in noisy and cramped areas is integral.
• Knowledge of machinery, tools, including their design, uses, repair and maintenance.
• Good physical condition, precise hand movements and mechanical aptitude are important.
• Available for night and weekend work if required, flexible schedule as business needs required.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be skilled in use of hand tools.
• Must be able to apply common sense, understand and carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.
• Good communication and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of basic mathematical skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 2-3 Years previous experience of farm work as a tractor driver
• Valid Driver’s license

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Two to three years of previous experience as a tractor driver
• Knowledge of techniques and equipment for commercial tillage, planting, cultivation, irrigation, fertilization and field maintenance.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Environmental exposure- seasonal outdoor temperatures (40&degree; Fahrenheit or below), heat (99&degree; Fahrenheit or above), wet, and darkened conditions.
• Material exposure- machine truck vibrations and moving mechanical parts.
• Must be able to stand for an extended period of time.
• Occasional exposure to environmental factors such as fumes, airborne particles and vibrations.
• Ability to ascend and descend ramps, steps, ladders, stairs using three-point contact.
• Ability to walk over uneven surfaces.
• Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs.

1st Shift – 6:00 AM to 4:30PM Overtime and Weekends, may be mandatory based on business needs. Rotating workday/time off schedules may be mandatory depending on department/business needs as well.
