POSITION: Mold Setter/PM Technician

DEPARTMENT: Molding

FUNCTION: Perform preventive maintenance on all molds to ensure that the molds are ready to run production efficiently. Pull and set molds on an injection molding machine. Perform machine start-up and shut down, processing; including troubleshooting, and routine maintenance, to produce an efficient process for production.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Effective communication, both verbal and written, with fellow employees regarding quality, cost, delivery, and safety.

2. Proper use of timekeeping system.

3. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area, recognizing hazards and taking appropriate corrective action.

4. Utilize lockout / tagout procedures as required.

5. Understand and follow all safety and accident prevention guidelines as outlined in the employee handbook.

6. Understand and follow all policies and procedures in the employee handbook.

7. Other duties as assigned.

8. Lead by example.

JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Operate all controls on an injection molding machine, Robots,

, etc.

2. Perform mold pulling and setting operation on a molding machine.

This includes:

A.) First piece start-up.

B.) Maintain last shot (untrimmed)

C.) Follow mold preventative maintenance procedures for all molds.

3. Understand and follow procedure when watering and de-watering a mold.

4. Establish process on a molding machine, robot, and auxiliary equipment. Document process on set-up sheet and

maintain existing set-up sheet.

5. Understand and follow procedures to determine the type of ejection and the type of knockouts to be used.

6. Identify and install correct nozzle assemblies, heater bands, and thermocouples.

7. Utilize correct procedure for tightening clamp bolts to the correct torque when setting mold.

8. Set-up auxiliary equipment such as ultrasonic welder, mills, hot stamps, heat stake, and pad printer.

9. Operate a forklift and overhead crane safely and correctly.

10. Organize work area for production; including but not limited to, auxiliary equipment, molding instruction sheet, set-up

sheets, water diagram, quality documents, and return previous job binder to quality assurance.

11. Interact w/maintenance engineer, lead person, mold press operator, tool shop, and maintenance technician.

12. Diagnose and repair minor maintenance problems on molding machine and auxiliary equipment.

13. Diagnose major maintenance problems, complete/process work order on problems and interface with

maintenance department concerning problem.

14. Maintain and improve process to efficiently produce quality products. Document changes made on set

-up sheet.

15. Utilize and effectively use department terminology.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Operations Manager, Tool Maker and Mold Shop Lead Person.

REQUIRED TOOLS: Safety glasses and other tools as required.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS: Work is conducted in a production environment. Must be able to lift 60 pounds and stand or sit for long periods of time. Ability to climb ladders and work at heights up to twelve (12) feet above floor level. Must use extreme caution when pulling and setting molds, due to high pressure on hydraulics and electrical mechanisms.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

Education. High school diploma or GED.

Experience. Six (6) months as a mold press operator.

Skills. Excellent reading, comprehension, communication, and basic math skills. Forklift certified operator.

Maintain a positive attitude and follow the basic principles when dealing with all other employees. Listen to understand clearly, give feedback to others, and get your point across. Acquire, evaluate, use, and communicate information. Must be able to deal with change, ask questions to clarify information, be a team player, and take appropriate corrective action.
